The capital of Ethiopia is at the frontline of climate change, suffering increasing floodings. In 2019, the local authorities launched an operation to rehabilitate 69 km of rivers in an area with more than 1,3 million inhabitants. The project is adopting an integrated and people- centered approach. Rainwater retention basins will prevent floodings, a green corridor will be enjoyed by the inhabitants, and sanitation equipment will reduce pollution into the crossed neighborhoods.
The UMDF is engaged in financing the preparatory studies, to mature the investment-readiness of the project.
