Bujumbura, participant to the African Cities Program

While the population of Bujumbura could quadruple in the next twenty years, the monitoring of the urban plan is lacking and the spontaneous neighbourhoods of the periphery are sprawling. Bujumbura needs to consolidate initiatives to meet the population needs, upgrading the provision of basic services as well as its transport systems. A key idea is to promote the economic and social autonomy of neighbourhoods in order to reduce the need to commute.
