In Kigali, the capital and largest city of Rwanda, improving urban mobility is an important step towards the city’s target to have a sustainable transport network. The Kigali Urban Transport Improvement (KUTI) seeks to improve urban mobility and entails a multimodal transport hub, improvements of critical junctions with climate-proof design, a non-motorized transport facility and support for public transport network and services. In addition, Kigali also joined the African Cities Program to develop a City Action Plan.

In December 2024, the African Development Bank allocated a $100 million loan to the Government of Rwanda for the KUTI project, based in particular on the feasibility studies financed by the UMDF (to the tune of $1,421,000) and carried out in the course of 2024.
