Kolwezi, participant to the African Cities Program

Located in the southeastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kolwezi is the capital of Lualaba Province. The city is a major hub for mining and is known as the world capital of cobalt. This mining activity significantly impacts the city’s development. Kolwezi is experiencing rapid urban growth, which has led to the expansion of informal settlements, environmental challenges, and difficulties in providing public services.
Participating in the African City Program will give the city an opportunity to develop an action plan to promote both economic and social development.
