Lungi Spatial Development Framework: a new vision to ease pressure on the capital city
Due to the rapid urban growth of the capital Freetown, the development of a new city, located in Lungi, part of Greater Freetown, has been prioritized by the government. The new city is conceptualized as an economic hub catering for various sectors including commerce, air transport logistics, finance, services, housing, commerce and tourism. The UMDF’s support is required to contribute with guidance for short-, medium-, and long-term planning and expansion management of this area, enabling a resilient, gender responsive and clima- te-compatible development of Lungi. The planning support will provide critical sex disaggregated data and information to inform gender responsive urban planning and development.
The UMDF is engaged in supporting the development of the “Lungi Spatial Development Framework”, to mature the investment-readiness of the project.
