The capital city of Nouakchott faces numerous challenges, including uncontrolled urban growth, a deficit in infrastructure and basic services, mobility issues, waste management problems, and exposure to health risks and climate hazards, as well as low economic development.
The city has initiated several actions, such as developing a master plan, an urban mobility plan, and a Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan.
Additionally, UMDF is supporting a project aimed at enhancing and protecting the city’s coastline (read more). Participating in the African Cities Program will help improve coordination between these various initiatives.
